Neanderthals Comet Flyby: Watch the Live Event, Grab the Dataset and Find Out How to Post-process it

On the 2nd of February 2023 at 4:00 UTC, Comet C/2022 E3 ZTF (also known as the “Neanderthals comet”) amazed us at its brightest, when it reached its minimum distance from the Earth.

We observed the event with our telescope in Spain (SPA-1) using the brand new CMOS camera, and it was a unique occasion to witness its beauty in real time thanks to our collaboration with the Virtual Telescope Project.

Missed the live event? Watch the recordings!

If you missed the opportunity to witness the Comet flyby, you can still watch the recordings of the live stream.

Grab the Dataset of the Comet

We also collected an incredible dataset of the comet, consisting of 79 frames with the LRGB filter set acquired from SPA-1 using the new CMOS cameras. This dataset is waiting for you to post-process it!

Learn how to post-process a Comet dataset

If you are wondering how to post-process a comet’s dataset, you can now watch the dedicated tutorial by our great tutor, Adam Block. For now, this tutorial will cover only PixInsight, but in the next future, we will upload new videos covering different software in our Tutorial section.
