Live Event: The Great Conjunction

Great Conjunction

A special thank you for everybody who joined our two Live Events!

If you've missed them, you can watch them here again on Youtube:

It is with immense pleasure that today I want to introduce you our first online Live Event!

And, if you are following the astronomical news, you might have already guessed for which occasion we are going to host this live event…

We are going to observe and live stream to you the Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn in two special live events!

As you know, we are working hard to create an improved version of our community, and we thought that this incredible event – that didn’t happen in almost 400 years (last time this occurred was in July 1623) – was the perfect occasion for a live stream event.

We will broadcast to you this incredible event from both Spain and Chile, in two separate live events

As you might know, Jupiter and Saturn can only be seen shortly after sunset, and for a short time as the two planets will also then set under the visible horizon.

The world’s largest database of astrophotography data is waiting for you! Start now your free trial.

We will, therefore, observe the event from our two observatories in Chile and Spain, during two separate events, at the following times:

The Great Conjunction From Spain
Time: Dec 21, 2020 at 9 am PST, 11 am CST, 5 pm GMT, 6 pm CET
Zoom Webinar: Sign up to get access to Zoom link
Youtube Live: https://youtu.be/QcikTa2iO_E

The Great Conjunction From Chile
Time: Dec 21, 2020 4 pm PST, 6 pm CST, 12 am GMT (next day), 1 am CET (next day)
Zoom Webinar: Sign up to get access to Zoom link
Youtube Live: https://youtu.be/o3gFw-TDJ9s

Both events will last for about 1h 30m

Please note that if the weather is bad during one of the two events, we will need to cancel the event. We will let you know in advance if one of the two events is cancelled.

Weather is excellent in this part of the year in Chile, while it's much more uncertain in Spain.

We are going to live stream the events on two different platforms

  • Zoom for all our subscribers. Here our subscribers will be able to comment and ask questions to the panel of experts that will lead the event.
  • A live stream (from Youtube, Vimeo, or Facebook Live), for those who never subscribed to our platform. Here the comments won’t be answered in real-time as we will do for Zoom.
Access anywhere, at any time, the world’s largest database of astrophotography data ready to be downloaded and post-processed.

For this reason, I would suggest you to subscribe to our platform taking advantage of our 1 month free trial. You can start your free trial now by clicking here (no credit card required at sign up)

There will be a professional panel commenting the event

First, you will have the chance to meet the Telescope Live team. The panel will include the founder of Telescope Live Marco Rocchetto, tutor Alex Curry, communication manager Chantal Nassef and junior editor Maurane Gisiger.

Moreover, we have invited some world-renowned astrophotographers who will comment on the event together with us:

Adam, Peter and Nik are world-renowned astrophotographers and Telescope Live tutors, who decided to patronage Telescope Live. They are also helping us to create some of the stunning video tutorials you can find in our platform.

You will get some insights into post-processing

Since the whole event will last only for about 1h 30m we are going to spend some time before showing you how we will acquire the data for the live stream.

Take advantage of our 1-week free trial to immediately access tons of data ready to be post-processed.

And, once the Conjunction will be over, if we manage to acquire some good data we are going to show you how to post-process the data obtained during the live observation.

But that’s not all!

In fact, for all Telescope Live subscribers, there will be a special gift: you will receive the recordings of the event and the raw data captured during the event!

In this way, you will have the chance to review the event (which is also going to be a class on post-processing – at least for the last part of the video) and you will be able to post-process the raw data following the instructions of the pros that will comment the event.

This special event will be free for everybody!

See it as a pre-Christmas gift from Telescope Live ;)

Moreover, this is going to be our first online live event and we want to do something easy-going since we want to get familiar with the format.

It doesn’t mean that we are going to be “lame” or that the quality will be poor! We are going to do whatever we can to offer you a wonderful experience at the best of our possibilities.

Start now your 1-week free trial and access fully-calibrated sets of images that are just waiting to be post-processed!

So now, the only thing to do is to wait for the day to come!

If you are an active user of Telescope Live:

You will receive an email the day before the event with all the credentials for joining the Zoom live stream.

If you never used Telescope Live before:

You will be able to watch the event from our live stream. We will publish the live stream link closer to the event date.

But remember that, if you want to:

  • receive the recordings of the live stream with all the tips and tricks that will be shared by our panel of experts
  • ask questions at our team of experts during the event
  • or simply get a reminder before the event begins,

Then you should consider subscribing now to our platform!

The first month is free of charge and you won’t need to insert your credit card details for the free trial.

You can subscribe in a second by clicking here

Comments

Is registration required for subscribers to participate and access data? All I see are links to Facebook, and I don't do Facebook.

Thanks for putting this together.

Hi Bryan,
No, you don't need to have Facebook. You will be able to access the event from Youtube Live (we've just published the links, see the updated post), and you will also receive the Zoom meeting links as you are subscribed to Telescope Live.

Thanks for doing this live event, I'm sure it will be awesome! looking forward to processing the raw data

Which of your telescopes will be used? CHI-2 and SPA-2? Appears they have the best field of view and while RC scopes may not be optimal for planetary (re contrast), it would be interesting to see what the view through those scopes will be. I'm looking forward to attending.
