Abell 1060 - Hydra Cluster
Abell 1060 - Hydra Cluster
Image of the Hydra Cluster (Abell 1060) acquired with the CHI1 telescope, using the Pro Dataset curated by Alex Curry.
The Hydra Cluster (or Abell 1060) is a galaxy cluster that contains 157 bright galaxies, appearing in the constellation Hydra. The cluster spans about ten million light-years and has an unusually high proportion of dark matter.
Abell 1060 is part of the Hydra-Centaurus supercluster. This is the nearest galaxy cluster to the Virgo supercluster, of which our Milky Way and our Local Group of galaxies is part of.
