Arp 273

Arp 273 (APG 273) is a pair of interacting galaxies located in the direction of the constellation Andromeda at a distance of 345 million light-years from Earth.

It is catalogued in the Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies compiled by the Halton Arp in 1966. The pair is formed by the interaction of the spiral galaxy UGC 1810, which appears face-on, and the five-fold smaller spiral galaxy UGC 1813, which appears almost in profile (edge-on). The latter shows the hallmarks of active star formation in the galactic core and is hypothesized to have already passed through the larger galaxy in the past. At the end of one of UGC 1810's spiral arms, a third small galaxy can be seen.

On January 28, 1962, a Type II supernova was detected in the galaxy UGC 1810, cataloged as SN 1962R.

Arp 273 is part of the Abell 347 galaxy cluster, which is also part of the Perseus-Pisces Supercluster (SCl 40).
