Clamshell Nebula (Sh2-119)

This very beautiful emission nebula is approximately 2200 light-years from Earth. The bright star in the center is 68 Cygni (mag 5) and is one of the six ionizing stars responsible for the glow in the surrounding gas. Notable are the bok globules and dark filaments that can be seen in the southern portion of the nebula.
