Comet C/2021 A1 (Leonard) meets Messier 3
Comet C/2021 A1 (Leonard) meets Messier 3
Following the discovery of the comet, orbital calculations soon showed that we could be in for a spectacular conjunction at dawn on 3 December 2021. From November 2021 onwards, I followed the forecasts on a daily basis, taking time off work to see and capture the event in the countryside with my own equipment if necessary. The weather was not merciful and at dawn that day a massive cloud cover covered the whole of Hungary. Based on previous years' experience, I had already secured some telescope time in Spain months in advance. The comet's passage in front of the Messier 3 globular cluster was only observable from Europe. The image was taken by the Telescope Live robotic telescope network in Spain.
