Cone Nebula
The Cone Nebula, NGC 2264, is a giant pillar of dust and gas, the result of a dark nebula absorbing the light of an emission nebula that lies behind it. The faint emission nebula is illuminated by the star S. Monocerotis, the brightest member of the NGC 2264 cluster.
The Cone nebula lies approx. 2,500 ly away in the constellation of Monoceros
