COSMIC REEF: NGC 2014 AND NGC 2020
NGC 2020 is an HII region surrounding the Wolf-Rayet star BAT99-59. It is located in the Large Magellanic Cloud.
The nebula was discovered on December 30, 1836 by the multifaceted John Herschel. NGC 2014 is a red-emission nebula that surrounds an open cluster of stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud, at a distance of about 163,000 light-years.
The nebula was discovered on August 3, 1826 by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop. Together with NGC 2020 it makes up what is called the Cosmic Barrier Reef
