GAMMA VELORUM
This is a quadruple star system in the constellation Vela. Two of its components are a blue supergiant and a Wolf-Rayet star. The WR is Very luminous and exhausting its hydrogen supplies quickly, on its way to a death in a supernova explosion. In the lower right, between the nebulosity is the open cluster NGC2547. Filamentous strands from a part of the supernova remnant that exploded about 12,000 years ago, are visible throughout.
