IC 2118 Witch Head Nebula in Eridanus
IC 2118 Witch Head Nebula in Eridanus
2-pane mosaic taken with CHI-4. Each pane comprises of 4 x 10m Luminance, 2 x 10m Red, 2 x 10m Green and 4 x 10m Blue. This is a very 'monochromatic' colour image as this extensive nebula is being illuminated by the very bright blue star Rigel in Orion. The proximity of Rigel means that there is some light scatter across the frames but this is relatively easy to remove. The Witch's face is more obvious if the image is rotated clockwise by 90 degrees!

Comments
Very nice image with a great blending. Well done with the faint structures in the nebula.
Thanks Willy. This was a nice data set to process. Fortunately the sky conditions were very good when the separate panes were acquired. This makes it much easier to blend the panes together.
This is great! Good detail even though I believe this is pretty faint object.
Thanks Jarmo! Yes, it is faint but the fast optics of CHI-4 delivered the goods :-))
