M 46 & NGC 2437

M46 is an open star cluster found in the constellation Pupis. At a distance of about 5000 light years, this cluster has about 500 stellar members.
Also in this frame is planetary nebula NGC 2437 at a distance of approximately 1370 light years. The rate of expansion of this planetary is 37 km/s, and the white dwarf star at the center has one of the hottest surface temperatures known at 74700 C.
