The so-called Southern Pinwheel Galaxy (also known as M83 or NGC 5236) is an intermediate spiral galaxy visible in the constellation Hydra and about 15 million light-years away. It is one of the closest and brightest spiral galaxies in the sky, and can also be spotted with binoculars. Its name "Pinwheel Galaxy" is due to its spiral arms
