M100

M100 is a Grand Design Spiral Galaxy (Sc-type) in the constellation Coma Berenices about 55 million light years away. It was one of the first galaxies where spiral structure was clearly identified using early photographic techniques. It has a nuclear starburst ring — a region of intense star formation about 1,000 light-years across.
