M17 Swan Nebula

The curved head and neck of the swan is top left of image - not to be confused with the Angry Bird which is at the base of the neck. The vaporous number 2 area is what inspired John Herschel and the Omega and Horseshoe names. The pink-to-red colour comes from hydrogen gas clouds that are being excited by extremely hot new born stars.
