Messier 24

Messier 24 / Small Sagittarius Star Cloud is a star cloud in the homonymous constellation, catalogued by Charles Messier in 1764. Approximately 10°S we find its bigger counterpart, the Large Sagittarius Star Cloud.
Messier 24 is composed of stars, clusters and nebulae located in the Sagittarius-Carina arm of the Milky Way. In the nearby, we can find other Messier objects, like Messier 17 (Omega Nebula), Messier 18 and Messier 16 (Eagle Nebula). The star cloud is one of the densest areas of the Milky Way we can see from Earth, through a binocular one can see over 1000 stars in the same field of view.
In Messier 24 there are many other non-stellar objects we find embedded:
- Dark nebulae – LDN 315, LDN 323, LDN 327, LDN 336, LDN 335, LDN 332
- Emission nebulae – Sh2-40, LBN 47, Sh2-37, IC 1283, Sh2-39
- Reflection nebulae – NGC 6589, NGC 6595
- Globular cluster NGC 6603
