RCW 100 The Fine Ring Planetary Nebula
RCW 100 The Fine Ring Planetary Nebula
Many cloudy nights and some hazy skies here in Georgia, so I have downloaded more data from the observatory in the Rio Hurtado Valley, Chile through Telescope Live. RCW 100 is too low on the horizon for me to image from home, (and a pretty small target for my FF107 refractor). The Fine Ring Planetary Nebula is located approximately 4,900 light-years away in the southern constellation of Norma. It has an apparent magnitude of 12.6 and an apparent size of 1.1 arcminutes. It was discovered by the American astronomer Harlow Shapley in 1936.
I did not use the SII data for the nebula and created an HOO image. There appeared to be no discernable SII nebula data. However, the SII data was used in conjunction with the Ha and OIII data to create the pseudo RGB stars.
A Plainwave CDK 24 and QHY 600M camera were used in acquisition of the subs from May 31 - June 2, 2025. There was 24 frames, 300 seconds each of Ha, SII and OIII data. I processed the calibrated light frames in Pixinsight and Photoshop.
