RCW 108 ( NGC 6193 ) a conspicuous cluster

NGC 6193 - RCW 108 (also known as C 82) is a rather conspicuous open cluster located in the constellation of Altar. it is part of an OB association known as Ara OB1a and is associated with the nebula NGC 6188. It is located in the northern part of the constellation; the nearest star that is clearly visible to the naked eye is ε Normae, located about 2 degrees to the northwest. With binoculars only the most important feature is visible, that is, the presence of a pair of stars of magnitude 5 and 6 dominating a group of stars of magnitude 9 and 10; With an amateur telescope it is possible to completely resolve the object and with a reflector of 200 mm aperture you will also notice that the two main components are double stars. In the long exposure photos, there is also a faint diffuse nebulosity, illuminated by the cluster, known by the abbreviation NGC 6188.

Due to its strongly southern declination, this cluster can be observed mainly by observers located in the southern hemisphere of the Earth; Its observation from the northern hemisphere is only possible near subtropical latitudes. The best time for observing it in the evening sky is between June and October.
