From Running Chicken to Statue of Liberty Nebula: a widefield mosaic image
Widefield 2-panel mosaic image of IC 2944 (Running Chicken Nebula), NGC 3576 (Statue of Liberty Nebula) and surrounding nebulae in the Southern constellations Centaurus and Carina.
The Running Chicken Nebula – pictured on the left of this image - is an open cluster with an associated emission nebula found in Centaurus near the star λ Centauri. It spans about 100 light years and lies about 6,000 light years away.
The Statue of Liberty Nebula – on the right - is another star-forming region in the constellation of Carina, about 9,000 light-years from Earth. To the left of NGC 3576 you can also see NGC 3603, another emission nebula about 20,000 light years away.
All images were acquired with AUS-2
Total integration time 315 minutes.
IC 2944: 6 subs of 450s with SII, H-alpha and OIII
NGC 3576: 12 subs of 300s with SII, H-alpha and OIII
