Tarantula Nebula SHO (Hubble Palette)
The Tarantula Nebula (also known as 30 Doradus or with the catalog codes NGC 2070 and C 103) is a very large star-forming region located in the Large Magellanic Cloud (one of our satellite galaxies). It is the largest known star-forming region in the Local Group of galaxies.
In the central areas of the nebula there is a very rich and compact cluster of stars, known as R136a, which is mainly responsible for the illumination of the gases in the nebula.
