Vela Supernova Remnant

This elegant colored lace is what remains of a large stellar supernova explosion, which occurred ~12,500 years ago and became visible from Earth ~815 years later: the latter is the distance in light-years that separates us from the place of the explosion. Although the supernova was type II, its proximity (8 times closer to us than, for example, the 1054 supernova that originated the Crab Nebula), must have generated a star in the sky that has shone very bright for weeks, surely visible even in broad daylight. But... only from the southern hemisphere. This was the Vela Supernova, located in the same constellation.
