The Tarantula's Web
The Tarantula's Web
The Tarantula nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud is the nearest Starburst to our Galaxy, but running south from it is this extensive complex of more modest star-forming regions, nebulae, and young star clusters.
This image is created from narrow-band data, but mapped to the 'CFHT' palette (RGB=HOS) instead of the more familiar Hubble palette (SHO). It offers a somewhat more faithful rendition of the extensive H-alpha emission regions.
