The Dragons of Ara
The Dragons of Ara
The constellation Ara holds the dark shroud of an opaque molecular cloud; its shadows can be seen threading through this image. However, at one point the gas is lit up by the hot young stars of the cluster NGC 6193; this bright gas forms the nebula NGC 6188, variously known as the Rim Nebula, the Great Wall of Ara, or the Fighting Dragons of Ara, shown here in the 'Hubble Palette' (see https://telescope.live/gallery/11 for a close-up).
Glowing in blue at the bottom (West) in this image is the small 'S'-shaped nebula NGC6164/5, created by outflows from its central star, the peculiar O-type star HD148937.
