The Large Magellanic Cloud
This is an image of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). It is a satellite galaxy of the Milky way and is about 160,000 light years away in the constellation Dorado. It measures only about 14,000 light years in diameter and is about a hundredth the size of the Milky Way. It is the forth largest galaxy in the local group behind the Andromeda, Milky Way and Triangulum galaxies.
