The Whirlpool Galaxy or M51 and NGC 5195 is a pair of interacting galaxies 31 million light years away in the constellation Canes Venatici. It formed the pair Arp 85.
M51 is an unbarred spiral galaxy. It has a Grand Design spiral structure that were caused by NGC 5195 while crossing it's disk. M51 also has an enhanced star formation.
NGC 5195 is a disturbed dwarf lenticular galaxy with irregular structures.
