NGC 2244 - The Rosette Nebula
This is an image of NGC 2244, also known as the Rosette Nebula. It is an emission nebula about 5,200 light years away in the constellation Monoceros. NGC 2244 actually refers to the open cluster in the center of the nebula which is closely associated with the nebulosity, the stars of the cluster having been formed from the nebula's matter.
