RCW127 Cat's Paw Nebula in HOO
The nebula gets its name from its appearance — the glowing red "pads" resemble the paw of a cat. These pads are dense knots of gas and dust, where massive stars are forming. The red glow is due to hydrogen gas ionized by the intense ultraviolet light from these young, hot stars.
