Sh2-129, the 'Flying Bat' Nebula
Sh2-129, the 'Flying Bat' Nebula
I hesitated to post this one, as it really doesn't have enough integration. The original intention was to try to pull out the embedded planetary nebula Ou4, but there were nowhere near enough OIII photons. With Ha the only channel with barely adequate signal, I eventually went with the CFHT palette, boosting the Ha nebular emission while trying to retain white balance in the stars, and leaning heavily on Topaz deNoise.
Like many sources, this nebula gets it name from its visual appearance, with the brightest parts supposedly resembling a flying bat to those with better imaginations than mine.

Well, I'm not sure I see the bat, but I do not know what you are complaining about! It is a beautiful image :)
