Small Magellanic Cloud

This is an image of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC). It is a dwarf galaxy about 200,000 light years away across the constellations of Tucana and Hydrus. It measures about 19,000 light years in diameter and contains hundreds of millions of stars. It is one of the most distant objects visible with the naked eye.
