Downloading JWST Data Using an iMac

JWST Image

About 2 months ago, I posted an article on how to download infrared image data from the JWST. What I did not mention, is that those of use who have iMacs may run into a particular problem when trying to download the JWST image data.

After filtering down to the specific data you would like to download, you'll see the situation as shown in the window below if you're using a Mac:

The JWST Site Data Download Icon

When you initially try to execute the data download, if you have a Mac, you will probably get an error that the pop-up window to download is blocked.

Download Data Blocked from Download

You'll note that on the right hand side of the browser command window, there is a rectangle icon that if you place your cursor over it, it says that the pop-up window is blocked. However, if you click on that icon, you will basically approve the pop-up window to open and your data will now download.

Data is Downloading

After the data is downloaded, you'll see it in Finder and you can now proceed to the next step to begin processing the data.

Thanks to Mike Jenkinson for pointing this out and reminding me to publish the solution to this problem. If anyone else continues to have issues with this, please let me know in the comments.

Reggie - thanks for this. I thought I had exhausted all the pop up approval options, but it turns out there was another one... My 'rectangle' is actually inside the bar where you type the URL - but it does the trick. First actual download is in progress as I type! Thanks again.
Edit: First download = Carina Wall (my fav) - and the FITS files seem to be approx 5Gb per NIRCAM filter! Can't wait to get some computer time in...
