LDN 1217
This is a fascinating field in Cepheus (everything in Cepheus is great), and the central spot in the photo is the dark nebula LDN 1217 (also known as Barnard 175). LDN 1217 is a Bok globule, a region where dust condenses to form protostars. The red filamentary material is a remnant of supernova SNR 110.3+11.3. Around the aforementioned structure we have a few more smaller objects whose catalog names can be found on the map of the region, including LDN1221, which represents a swimming jellyfish.
