Mark Johnston
I have been fascinated by the night sky since I ‘discovered’ Saturn with my 60mm refractor at the age of 10. An APOD-winning astrophotographer, I have been published in Sky & Telescope, Astronomy Magazine, and Space.com. As a NASA Solar System Ambassador, I have conducted thousands of public outreach programs and am a registered cruise ship speaker on astronomy and space science, as well as a Director of the Phoenix Astronomical Society. I frequently post astrophotography images, news, and tutorials on social media. My solar imaging and videos are particularly popular, and I have conducted extensive research on solar cameras and solar image processing techniques.

Intro to Astro Pixel Processor

If you are new to astrophotography and you are trying to understand which post-processing software is the right one for you, then this series is what you are looking for. In these videos, Telescope Live co-founder Alex Curry will guide you through the four leading software dedicated to astrophotography. You will get a quick and raw demonstration of how you can post-process a picture in about 5 minutes with Siril, Astro Pixel Processor, Affinity Photo or Pixinsight.

Post-processing Globular Clusters in PixInsight

Post-processing globular clusters can be tricky, as you can often end up with a blown-out core. The key to a good globular cluster is to make sure that you have a good resolution and contrast all the way to the centre of the cluster. In this tutorial, Bernard Miller will show you how. The software used is PixInsight and the tutorial assumes that you already have your master frames (luminance, red, green and blue).

Processing of the APOD winning Dolphin Nebula

In this end to end Tutorial Nik Szymanek will guide you through the processing of the Dolphin Nebula, obtained with CHI-2 a telescope of the Telescope Live network.  The resulting image has won the APOD on 30th October 2021: https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap211021.html The filters used for this dataset include broadband data (RGB) and narrowband data (HOO) using PixInsight and Photoshop.  You can find the same dataset as One-Click Observations by clicking on the associated dataset link below.
